Boolean operations when one object is completely inside another

Booleans are working better than ever in Strata Design 3D. This quick tip is helpful when doing Boolean operations in which one object is completely inside the other.

A quick way to create boolean operations when one object is completely contained within another is using a camera.

First, create the objects. In this example we’ll use a cube within a sphere.

Next, create a camera from the view.

Move the camera forward until it is inside the outer object. Setting a really short focal length is important here.

Inside the outer object

Now it will be easy to select the Boolean tool –subtraction in this case– and do the operation. It is possible that the red highlight will not be seen in the outer object, but the Project Window will let you know all is well.

That’s it. Quick and easy. Now we can delete the camera.
