The sixth step in the My House Project is beginning to detail the porch. We will work with cubes, numeric measurements and a lot of snapping. We will also texture the floor and set the size of the tiles numerically.
Let’s start by grouping the cube that corresponds to the porch.
After grouping, we double click on it and have our own window to work in.
Select the cube, copy and paste it. We now have two cubes on the same place. We will leave the larger cube as reference and resize copies of it.
Let us begin with the pillar
Once the pillar is created, let us snap it into place. Snap the front top right vertex of the pillar with the front top right vertex of the reference cube.
Now duplicate the pillar and snap the front top left vertex of the copy with the front top left vertex of the reference cube.
The procedure is the same for the horizontal beams. Copy/paste the reference cube, resize, snap.
The beams are 2 ft. in height and 0.8ft. thick.
We should have something likr the image below.
The floor is the reference cube scaled really thin.
We will texture the floor with the Tile – Slate Stone texture. We’ll set it to cubic mapping and set the texture size to 4.8 x 4.8 x 48.ft. Remember that we know that each tile is 1.6 ft. in size, and the map of the tile is 3×3 tiles.
Next, we position the texture to align it with the borders of the floor.
Ready! Hide the reference cube, close the group edit window and render the view from the camera. The house begins to take shape.
