PROJECT: Modeling, Texturing and Rendering an Alarm Clock (for beginners)

This is a series of tutorials which walks through the creation of a gold alarm clock. It starts off with basic modeling material for beginners and progresses onto more advanced modeling, texture and rendering.

MODELING: BEGINNER

Part 1. Create the clock body  Go to tutorial
This tutorial is intended for people new to Design3D and 3D in general. It walks through the creation of an alarm clock model, component by component, which helps to discuss various modeling tools and procedures.
Part 2. Create clock components  Go to tutorial
Part 2 inserts two bell instances into the scene; creates the handle; and creates the clock face.
Part 3. Create the clock legs  Go to tutorial
Part 3 inserting the clock legs and arranges them; it creates the hour hand; and applies the numbers to the clock face.

MODELING: MORE ADVANCED

Part 4. the minute hand

This tutorial shows how to model an alarm clock hand using subdivision surfaces. It also shows how to set it up for two materials using material subsets.

This tutorial shows how to reset the bounding box of polygons isolated from a larger set of geometry. This is very useful when needing to create new objects with custom bounding boxes (and hence local axes). It also discusses the nature of scale and how it can impact subdivision surfaces.
