Sun and Sky Background

Strata 3D CX 7 has a new Sun & Sky background that is really good for exterior scenes. The color of the sky varies with the angle of the Directional light.

In Strata 3D CX 7 we find the Sun & Sky background.

It shows a sky with the sun coming from the position where the directional lights comes from.

If the scene has more than one directional light, there will be more than one sun.

Two directional lights result in two "suns"

The Sun & Sky background preserves the color of the Directional light(s)

When creating or editing the background, we are presented with the following dialog:

We can adjust the Sky colors and the lighting with the adjustment dialog.

We can preview the background either by clicking and dragging on the preview or by using the model lighting.

The Atmospheric Haze and Particulate Measure (Turbidity) slider controls the “depth” of a more or less hazy sky. A turbidity of around 5 or 6 is a “normal” sky.

The color of the sky will depend on the position of the light.

For the following examples, the Sun and Sky background was applied both as a visible and as a reflected environment.

These are the sky and reflected colors for different Directional light positions:

This background is a very versatile tool. These are some of its possibilities.
