A Sprinkler: Fountain FX VI

By Rodrigo Duarte on October 4, 2012

We’ll continue applying the Fountain FX to different uses. This time we’ll make a rotating sprinkler.

We will combine a Fountain FX with a cycle attribute to create a rhythmic particle pulse on a rotating emitter.

As is customary, we will create a cone to act as the emitter. This cone wil be set to construction object (Ctrl/cmd+7). We will apply to it a Fountain FX with the following settings.

The Fountain FX at time=0

The Fountain FX at time=12 frames

The Fountain FX at time=16 frames. No particles.

To this emitter we add a Cycle attribute.

An infinite cycle attribute that lasts 16 frames – half a second.

Now it is time to make this sprinkler fountain rotate. Group the cone, and to the cone add continuous Y-Axis rotation.

The rotation speed is set to 0.25 rotations per second

That’s it. A Toon render will show the behavior of the sprinkler working correctly. The animation should be something like this.

Soon we will create the sprinkler itself and convert the particles into water.
