Architectural Modeling Tips
Precisely position and manipulate an object using the Snap Tool, grids and use of the Project Window. This modeling tutorial shows how to repurpose one piece of geometry for use in another part of the scene. It demonstrates how to use custom grids and the snap tool for accurate placement and position control. It also shows how to directly edit shape data in the scene for in-context shape/instance editing.
Modeling an architectural staircase element. This modeling tutorial demonstrates how to use named custom grids to model symmetrical elements. It also shows how to work with instances that have pesky nested nodes. The use of the Replace selected function is also covered.
Divide a polygon into 3 equal segments using the Bevel tool. This quick modeling tutorial shows how to divide a polygon into 3 or more equal segments using the Bevel tool.
The Overhang Support. This modeling tutorial demonstrates various object manipulation and modeling techniques for working with logically grouped objects. It demonstrates good usage of shapes and instances in addition to times when groups are appropriate organizational mechanisms. This tutorial also shows how to set a unique location for the pivot in various ways.

This is a tutorial that deals with changing the local coordinate space of an object to better help deal with texture placement. Projected textures (planar, cylindrical, etc.) are applied relative to the local Z axis of an object and something this isn’t the optimal way of setting a material onto an object. Part 1. Hinge Modeling. When it’s ok to use triangles in a subdivision surface mesh. This modeling tutorial shows when it’s ok to use triangles in a subdivision surface mesh. Quads are the preferred polygon type when creating a mesh that is intended to be subdivided. But there are times when triangles work well and may in fact be preferred.
Part 2. This tutorial walks through the process of creating a hinged, sliding type door setup. It makes heavy use of nested shapes/instances,the Object Properties palette, the Reflect tool, the Snap tool and the Joint tool to arrange and setup the doors.
