Frosted glass

By Rodrigo Duarte on May 23, 2012

Strata 3D allows us to render blurred transparency. This is a boon for creating materials such as frosted glass. Renderings with blurred transparency are slower but the results are well worth it.

For this exercise we’ll start with the Dark Studio preset,  lathe a vase, with a thin wall thickness and apply a base glass texture.

This is the Base glass we will use.

Remember to use Fresnel interpolation for the reflectivity.

The frosted glass texture is less transparent, has less reflectivity (almost none) and blurred reflections.

The key element here is remembering to check the Blurred Transparency checkbox.

Of course, we can combine the normal glass with the frosted glass with stencil maps.

Quick and easy frosted glass. Hope it is of use.
