In this ninth part of the My House Project we will create the windows. We’ll use some subdivision operations, the pen tool and extrusion, plus the omnipresent cubes.
Windows are excellent candidates for being converted into shapes and added to our library, avoiding the need to model them time and again.

The house at the end of part VIII
We remember from part VIII that the windows are 6×5 ft, and that is the dimension of the spaces we subtracted. Here is the scene file, just in case
Let us create a new shape and name it Window.
Next, let’s draw a 6 x 5 x 0.1 ft. cube. This will be the window frame.
Next, we are going to convert this cube into a polygon mesh.
Select the front and back faces. Then select the Extrude Inset Tool and create an inset pressing the left cursor arrow key 10 times.
Now press the B key to bridge the selected faces, creating the frame.
Repeat the process, creating a new shape named Pane, creating a 3x5x0.1 ft. cube and performing the inset and bridge in the same way. Then add a thin cube. This will be the glass.
It is a good idea to apply the Fillet command to the frames. With filleted edges, light will be reflected in more interesting ways. The Fillet command is the third button from the left in the bottom row of the Modeling Commands panel.
Let’s apply an Aluminium texture to the frame and a glass texture to the glass. Screenshots of the textures below.
Now add two panes to the window shape and place them. Apply the aluminium texture to the frame too.
Bars now. Security is important.
The single bar is a cube 0.05 x 0.05 x 6 ft., filleted.
Replicate this bar 20 times to the right, 0,3 ft. apart.
Group the bars and add a white paint texture.
Position the bars in front of the window.
We will now add a curtain behind the window.
Using the Pen Tool draw a wavy line behind the window.
Extrude the line until all the surface of the window is covered.
The window is ready.
We now place two instances of the window in the spaces we subtracted, one in the living room and one in the bedroom.
