Modeling my House VIII: Detailing the Front

The Eighth part of the My House Project is detailing the front of the house. We will use the Pen 2D Region Tool, the Mirror Tool and several Boolean Subtractions.

 

On Part VII, the previous part, we did the garden area.

In this part we will add a little detail to the front of the house and we will cut the holes for the front windows.

We will start with the decoration on the top.

Let us start by selecting the cube on the left behind the garden. Then group it and double click on it. We now have a modeling window just for this section of the house.

 

This is a 2D region drawn with the 2D Region Pen Tool, then extruded, then the hole is cut and then it is mirrored. It is about 9 ft. in width, so we will draw only one half of it, 4.5 ft. in width.

When it is ready, with the points properly placed, et cetera, we extrude it.

We now draw a 1x1x1 ft. cylinder and place it in the middle of the right side of the extruded profile. This cylinder will be the hole.

Ready for performing the Boolean Subtraction

Now we perform the Boolean Subtraction, clicking with the Boolean Subtraction Tool on the cylinder, and then, without releasing the mouse button, drag until the extruded object is highlighted. Only then we release the mouse button.

Now we proceed to mirror the resulting object, clicking and dragging with the mirror tool on the right side of the object.

The next step is putting it in place, snapping it first and aligning it with the cube second.

The spouts are Boolean subtracted cubes, fairly simple.

There are two spouts on the front, about 1 foot from the edge and about 10 ft. from the base of the cube.

The next step is subtracting the windows from the walls.

Windows are 6x5ft., so we create a cube 6 ft. in width, 5 ft. in height and 3 ft. in depth and place the bottom edge of the cube 4 ft up from the base of the volume.

Let us copy the cube before performing the Boolean subtraction. We will need it for the bedroom window.

The next step is subtracting the window from the living room.

Let us repeat the process for the bedroom. Remember: 4 ft high, centered on the front side.

We are left with this final render.
