Part 2 specifically walks through the generation of UVs from a projected texture, and then shows how to manipulate the UVs in order to get a texture to correctly adhere to the object. Basic 7.5 and 8.0 UV MAPPING TUTORIALS
These first tutorials cover basic UV mapping operations and basic UV unwrapping scenarios to help
get you familiar with the UV mapping process. While many of these were recorded in version 7.5 (which has the new Conform unwrap function), they can also be done in 8.0. The BurnUV function was located in the Commands palette in 7.5 and it now resides in the tools bar under the main menu in 8.0.

This tutorial shows how to create a UV map that conforms to the size of existing Illustrator art whose physical size needs to be maintained. UV space is an abstractly measured system, and this tutorial shows how to create UV template which relates to the physical size of Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop artwork.
Merging UVs from a primitive into an existing polygon mesh (8.0)

This UV mapping tutorial shows how to merge a 2D Polygon primitive, with its pre-defined UV coordinates, with another polygon mesh and sync up the UVs from both. It also shows how to retain the existing UVs after a few modeling operations are done, using point pinning and the Conform function.

This is a tutorial aimed at intermediate to more advanced users which deals with the relationship between UV mapping and cylindrical projection mapping. Specifically, it deals with two things; how to map the caps separately from the cylinder; and how to create distortion free UV’s for the body, meaning how to maintain the correct aspect ratio of the cylinder 3D geometry to the UV space geometry. In many ways this is geared towards users newer to UV mapping so there’s a lot of explanation about the UV space. This tutorial is done entirely in Design3D but does use Wings3D to help demonstrate a few parts of the tutorial (it’s not necessary to know Wings3D for this tutorial).

It helps to show how to prevent the label from being projected onto the inside of the object using UV mapping. Part of the exercise shows how to set up the label material so the bitmap applies predictably and with a specific size.
