Quick Wooden Window Frame

By Rodrigo Duarte on October 10, 2012

The ability of Strata Design 3D CX7 to apply textures to subsets of polygon meshes enables us to create really quick wooden window frames.

We start with a flattened cube.

Starting Flattened cube.

Select both the front and rear faces of the object.

Using the Extrude Inset Tool inset the selected faces.

Bridge the inset faces to make the hole.

Select a vertical edge on the left side, and a vertical edge on the right side. Then Make a Ring select (N key).

Change to Face Mode. Right-click on a selected face and select Set Subset from the menu. Assign a number to the subset.

Repeat the process for the horizontal edges and faces. Create another subset.

Apply a Wooden texture to the first subset. Change to cubic mapping.

Rotate and scale the texture mapping to get adequate grain for each subset.

That’s it: Quick wooden frames.
