A Whisky Bottle 2: The Neck

We will continue with the Whisky Bottle tutorial. We will now texture the neck of the bottle. it is a similar process to the wine bottle neck we discussed in a previous tutorial, only a bit more detailed.

We created the bottle lathe and set the scene up in a previous tutorial.

This is the starting project file for this part.

The Neck of the bottle is just a texture. We will begin by creating the Stencil Map to limit the application of the texture. The stencil map is a white image. 900×500 is a good size.

Create a new Image Texture and add the white map as a Stencil map.

Apply the texture using cylindrical mapping and set tiling to none.

Mapping of the neck

Positioning of the neck texture

The bottle should now look like this:

The good part is that, now that the texture is in place, refining the look is just a matter of adding and replacing maps.

Let’s add a bump map.

The bump map simulates the texture of the cap.

The diffuse color map can be anything we’d like.

In this case the color map is copper-colored with a logo and the whisky brand.

We now need to apply glossiness. We’ll go for a metallic look with blurred reflections.

We will use a modified color map for the specular color map.

The other values are:

  • Diffuse and Ambient Amount: 25%
  • Specular amount: 100%
  • Reflectivity: 35% with blurred reflections
  • Smoothness: 50%, with a mix ratio of 20%

This is the finished texture.

The result should look like the image below.
