We often need to replicate elements around a circle. For this we move the centerpoint of the object and replicate.
To replicate an object around its center, we set one less repetition than the number of objects we have (as we already have the original object) and the angle of rotation in the corresponding axis is 360/number of objects needed.
- To replicate objects in the xz plane (horizontal) rotate around the y-axis
- To replicate objects in the xy plane rotate around the z-axis
- To replicate objects in the yz plane rotate around the x-axis
A quick table that is worth memorizing is this one, that has the rotation angles for several replications.
- 2 objects: 180º
- 3 objects: 120º
- 4 objects: 90º
- 5 objects: 72º
- 6 objects: 60º
- 7 objects: 52º
- 8 objects: 45º
- 9 objects: 40º
- 10 objects: 36º
- 12 objects: 30º
- 20 objects: 18º
- 24 objects: 15º
- 30 objects: 12º
- 36 objects: 10º
- 40 objects: 9º
- 48 objects: 7.5º
Those are the most commonly used replications in my experience.
