Troubleshooting a Flawed Mesh

As we learn to model, we come upon situations that can bring our work to a screeching halt. In this tutorial I will take a mesh with some unidentified problems, and work through some methods to identify and fix those problems.

A Fast Twisted Bar Model

This is another way to model a twisted bar. This tutorial series grew from a discussion on the Strata cafe forums, where I recommended this method, which is very fast and direct. In order to achieve my desired result as quickly as possible, I move between the polygon mesh editor and the spline editing tools in the main modeling space. This is a slightly unusual approach you may not have tried yet.

Modeling a Spiral DNA Molecule

In this tutorial we will model a DNA molecule. There are several ways to do this; which approach you choose will depend upon the exact look you want to achieve: a twist, a spiral, a helix, etc. Here, I will demonstrate an "old school" spiral method that is very effective. Some other approaches may be a bit faster, but this one is very controlled, and also may introduce you to a modeling technique you will find helpful for other projects.

Modeling a Can Pull Tab with Polygon Modeling and Subdivision Surfaces, Part 2

This tutorial is a beginner tutorial on modeling a can pull tab. I try to review some of the elementary polygon modeling concepts involved, but I also assume you are not totally new to polygon modeling and subdivision surfaces. This tutorial uses Design 3D 7's new template images and multi-edge bridging, but with a couple of adjustments could easily be done in CX 6.

Introduction to UV Mapping in CX 7, Part 4

In the earlier "Introduction to UV Mapping in CX 7" videos we built a box to a specified size, for which we already had a label built. In this video, we approach mapping the label to the box from the other direction: we build the box first, then we create a map to fit the box.
